Experience an outdoor adventure at the Forest Activity Festival

CCjIb6hWEAAF_NGThe Forest Activities Festival will take to the grounds of The Speech House Hotel on Sunday 26 April 2015, offering locals and tourists alike a wealth of indoor and outdoor pursuits to try.

Whether you’re hoping to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle or simply looking to take up a new hobby, there will be everything from archery, mountain biking and bush craft to cookery, photography, golf and throwing pots on offer from a whole host of local businesses.

Some of our most popular activity providers will be at the event including Go Ape, Pedalabikeaway, Forest Hills Golf club, Taurus Crafts and Forest of Dean Adventure. Quirkier activity stands such as Artspace will invite you to try your hand at trapeze and circus skills.

Dean Forest Cycling Club will be attending, they have members involved in most aspects of cycling from leisure rides through the Forest to Track competitions at the Velodrome. They have a full competition programme based in the Forest including Road time trials, mountain bike racing and regular club rides exploring the entire district, and beyond. To find out more come and meet them at their stand at the event.

Or if you’d rather a less adrenaline fuelled excursion, visit the Forest of Dean Ramblers and Walking for Health stands and take a stroll down to the Speech House Lake.  Little ones can learn all about the flora and fauna of the forest from the Forestry Commission and Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust throughout the day, while the more adventurous kids can unleash their inner Bear Grylls and build dens out of natural materials.

Music will not be missed out with performances from the oldest boy band in the Forest, The Dixons of Dock Green, as well as Devon Cassells , Rumble and the Lydbrook Ukulele band who until a few years ago had not even picked up a ukulele and now they are spreading the love of the jumping flea wherever they find an audience.

The RFU will have a stand which will feature a fun passing challenge testing people’s passing accuracy, they will be promoting the rugby world cup with plenty of freebies to give away and showcasing the rules of play for the under 7 and 8 age groups in the main arena with tag rugby.

The Gloucestershire football association will be attending this year and will be providing football coaching for all ages including the over 50’s with the first ‘walking football’ sessions to be held in the Forest of Dean.

Innovative and original artists, makers and designers showcase and sell their work in our arts and craft marquee with some art based workshops available to take part in including an opportunity to hammer your own silver ring and make beaded jewellery with Balm Jewellery.

The Forest Showcase, the largest food festival in the area will be hosting their own food hall and dishing out delicious local produce. The showcase will include an eclectic mix of local food producers alongside some of the best street food you will find in the area.

The very popular dog show will be returning again, organised by Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) and Barking Mad who provide holidays for dogs!

With the chance for visitors of all ages to explore everything the fairytale Forest of Dean has to offer, whilst raising heart rates and excitement levels to boot, the Forest Activities Festival looks set to be a real highlight on the county calendar for families in particular, so come along and have a go!
