New ways to enjoy the great outdoors in The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds has launched a major, new summer campaign to showcase the region as a key destination for walking and cycling. The Great Cotswold Outdoor campaign features a series of 17 new weekend walking itineraries, based around the market towns of the Cotswolds, as well as a new Cotswolds 7-day Circular Cycling Holiday Tour map.

While the walking itineraries can be downloaded for free at www.cotswolds.com, the waterproof Cycling Holiday Tour map is available from Visitor Information Centres, priced at £3.99.

Each of the online walking guides provides full details on where to stay, what to see and what to do – and highlight walking routes which now cater for everyone, from gentle strollers, to serious hikers.

The cycling map, meanwhile, provides the visitor with a circular route taking-in Stroud, Nailsworth, Berkeley, Painswick, Winchcombe, Burford and Cirencester.  Broken down into daily itineraries, it is intended to be best enjoyed over a week of cycling; but additional circular cycling day-routes for weekend visitors, are also featured.

The gentle rolling countryside of the Cotswolds is what makes it such an ideal area of England for holiday makers to explore on foot and by bike.  Visitors who do decide to walk or cycle usually gain an even better insight into what makes this such a special part of the world – whether it be the honey-coloured stone cottages, the teashops and restaurants, the many attractions along the way, or even closer contact with the locals.

To broaden the appeal of this new campaign, Cotswolds Tourism is now working towards the production of a dedicated app, as well as an electronic version of the 2015 Cotswold Visitor Guide in time for its launch at the end of this year.  Responding to the way in which both cycling and walking had become two of the most searched areas of the www.cotswolds.com, the website has also been updated to give greater profile to these two outdoor pursuits.

And as well as featuring highly on the home page, direct links for the new walking and cycling routes and maps can now be found at http://www.cotswolds.com/the-great-cotswold-outdoors/cotswolds-walking-weekends; and at http://www.cotswolds.com/the-great-cotswold-outdoors/7-day-circular-cycling-tour.
